The Route 90 Garage Sale runs about 50 miles down the east side of Cayuga Lake in New York's Finger Lakes, following NY Route 90 — a state scenic byway — from Montezuma at the north end through Cayuga, Aurora, and Genoa to the village of Homer at the south. It takes on a festival feel each year, with sales lining the road and local clubs, fire departments, and churches running breakfasts, bake sales, and barbecues all along the way.
The Finger Lakes corridor has a deep yard-sale culture, and the goods reflect old lakeside and farm communities: antique furniture and tools, glassware and kitchenware, lake-cottage finds, and the everyday Americana that turns up where families have summered and farmed for generations. Aurora, home to a historic college and a tidy lakeside main street, is one of the prettiest stretches to work.
There is no single central organizer — participation is up to individual property owners and the towns along the route — so the sale density varies year to year and town to town. Official hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, rain or shine. Start at one end and work your way along; Aurora and Union Springs make a good midpoint base.
This route runs through these anchor towns. Drive any segment, or the whole route — most folks pick a stretch and work their way through it.
