The US Highway 36 Treasure Hunt is a 400-mile yard sale that runs the full width of northern Kansas every September, following US-36 from Elwood on the Missouri River in the east all the way to Saint Francis near the Colorado line in the west. Dozens of towns across thirteen counties take part — Marysville, Belleville, Smith Center, Phillipsburg, Oberlin, and Saint Francis among them — strung along one of the great east-west routes across the High Plains.
This is open prairie country, and the sales reflect it: genuine farm and ranch tools, vintage advertising and hardware, mid-century furniture, and flat-priced estate merchandise from towns where goods have never circulated through a city antique mall. The catchment is enormous and the distances are real, so most shoppers pick a stretch — the eastern counties around Marysville and Belleville, or the western run through Norton and Oberlin — rather than trying to cover all 400 miles in three days.
Belleville sits near the eastern-central stretch and is a common base for the busy middle counties. Sales open early and the route is well signed; the official organizers publish town maps and a Google-mapped list of locations each year as the event approaches — check ushwy36.com before you set out.
This route runs through these anchor towns. Drive any segment, or the whole route — most folks pick a stretch and work their way through it.

Along US Highway 36 across northern Kansas, from Elwood on the Missouri River in the east to Saint Francis near the Colorado line in the west — about 400 miles through thirteen counties. Dozens of towns take part, including Marysville, Belleville, Smith Center, Phillipsburg, Oberlin, and Atwood.
About 400 miles end to end. Most shoppers pick a stretch rather than driving the whole thing in three days — the eastern counties around Marysville and Belleville, or the western run through Norton, Oberlin, and Saint Francis. Belleville makes a practical base for the busy middle.
The organizers (the US Highway 36 Association) publish town maps and a Google-mapped list of sale locations each year as the event approaches. Check ushwy36.com before you set out — the maps go live in mid-September.
