Beyond the verified stops: smaller home sales line the corridor for the full 100 miles — most don't register on the official list. Plan around the verified anchors here, then drive day-of and watch for hand-painted signs.
The Highway 21 Treasure Hunt runs through southwestern North Dakota every third weekend of June, following ND Highway 21 across Morton, Grant, and Hettinger counties, from St. Anthony near Mandan west through Flasher, Carson, Elgin, New Leipzig, Mott, and Regent to New England. The corridor covers roughly 130 miles of some of the most rural territory in the Great Plains — the kind of region where a garage sale can draw buyers from 100 miles away.
North Dakota's sale culture is shaped by farm consolidation and rural depopulation — families clearing out homesteads and farmsteads that have been in place for generations. That means authentic prairie finds: vintage farm machinery, old grain elevator items, Northern Plains homestead goods, and the mid-century household pieces that never reached an antique dealer. Prices stay low because there's little regional dealer pressure.
The event organizes through its online community page, where registered seller addresses are posted before the weekend, and printed listings are posted at local businesses in each town. Southwestern North Dakota doesn't get many large organized sale events — this one fills that gap for the region.
This route runs through these anchor towns. Drive any segment, or the whole route — most folks pick a stretch and work their way through it.
